An analysis of the relationship between employer attitudes and job retention rate of AFDC recipients in selected counties of Georgia, 1990

The purposes of this study were: (a) to determine whether there is a difference in attitudes toward AFDC recipients between employers who have hired AFDC recipients and employers who have not hired AFDC recipients; and (b) to explore the relationship between employers' attitudes toward AFDC recipients and the retention rate of AFDC recipients employed within these firms. A sample of 106 Georgia employers completed questionnaires. Results showed the following: (a) There was no significant difference between the attitudes of both groups of employers toward AFDC recipients; and (b) There was no statistically significant relationship between employers' attitudes toward AFDC recipients and the job retention rate of AFDC employees in these firms. Implications of these and other results for employment programs for AFDC recipients are discussed.
