An analysis of teachers' perceptions of school climate influenced by selected demographic variables, 1991
Meadows, Hendra P.
1990-1999
The intent of this study was to investigate teachers' perceptions of school climate in a suburban elementary school as influenced by selected demographic variables. These demographic variables were teachers' sex, race, teaching position, age, and number of years in the school. A total of 41 teachers participated in the study. Each participant completed the survey of Professional Staff Perceptions of School Climate to evaluate the school climate of a suburban metropolitan Atlanta elementary school. Statistical data from the Pearson Product Moment indicated that there was no significant difference between school climate and the demographic variable mentioned above except race. School climate was perceived as high by black teachers and low by white teachers. It is recommended that further research be conducted using other selected demographic variables.
