Toward a sociology of the Black family: a bibliographic essay, 1973
Stroman, Carolyn Alma
1970-1979
This thesis reveals the research done on the black family in the United States from 1939, the publication date of Frazier's The Negro Family in the United States, to 1972. An examination of the major bibliographical guide. to the literature produced forty-four periodical article and fourteen books published on the black family. Descriptive annotations were provided for both the periodicals and the books. A critical analysis was also done for each of the books. The major conclusion that can be drawn from this thesis is that the literature indicates that scholars have continually failed to provide substantive information upon which to develop working theories to guide productive research.
