Confidentiality for social workers in host settings: an ethical dilemma, 1994

The objective of this study was to broaden the Knowledge or social workers that are employed within host settings. Most, settings are defined as occupations that are not primarily classified as social service professions. The purpose of the study was to determine whether social workers in this tield confronted ethical dilemmas in terms of client contidentiai1ty. A twenty item questionnaire was administered to seventy-five social workers, twenty of whom worked in a social service agency and fifty five social workers that were employed in host settings from the Southwest Atlanta suburbs and surrounding metropolitan counties. It was demonstrated tnat social workers employed in host settings often encounter et-hi ceil dilemmas in relation to confidentiality. However, it was also demonstrated that social workers employed within traditional social services often encounter the same types of ethical dilemmas concerning client confidentiality as social workers employed within host settings.
