This undated video recording consists of clips from the PBS television show, The MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour. All of the clips focus on the issue of “political correctness” on university and college campuses in the United States. The first clip is an exploration of the issue on the campus of the University of California-Berkeley. The second clip, beginning at time stamp 00:15:30, is an interview of Temple University professor Molefi Asante by Robert MacNeil. Asante defends Afrocentrism and African American Studies and argues that the controversy over political correctness is just “an attack” on the “progressive agenda” of the previous twenty-five years. The final clip is an interview, also by MacNeil, of political commentator Dinesh D’Souza who criticizes Afrocentrism and argues that political correctness exists as a way to shut down valid discussion of issues facing students and to deflect criticism away from universities.
