This video recording, dated January 1, 1987, is a short instructional video produced by the state of California’s Department of Education, titled “First Moves: Welcoming a Child to a New Care Giving Environment." The recording presents video clips of young children and their parents arriving at a childcare facility while care givers attempt to aid in the transition of the child to the new environment. There is also a panel discussion about the techniques being demonstrated between each set of clips. The video exhorts caregivers to pay particular attention to three techniques: Distance, Indirect Contact, and Time.
