For the People ([Martin] Bernal IV & V)
Asa G. Hilliard, III Papers
This video recording, dated December 5, 1985, consists of parts 4-5 of a special series of the program For The People, produced by the South Carolina Educational Television Network. The special series focused on an interview of Dr. Martin Gardiner Bernal, author of Black Athena: The Afro-Asiatic Roots of Classical Civilization, by the show’s host, Listervelt Middleton. These sections explore the origins of Greek religion in Egyptian religion, particularly focusing on Aphrodite, who Bernal argues originates with the Egyptian goddess Udit. Bernal also argues that European philosophers, such as John Locke and David Hume were “racist thinkers,” preferring to see Europeans at the top of a great “chain of being.”
