Return to the Source II: Ancient Lives/Obdade and Ashic/ Return to Source Asa
Asa G. Hilliard, III Papers
This video recording contains four different recordings. The first recording contains excerpts of the 1984 documentary television program, “Ancient Lives,” hosted by Egyptologist John Romer. The second recording is an undated episode of the television program Open Studio for the Southeast Center, hosted by Vincent Ford. In the program, Ford and his guests discuss the upcoming Nile Valley Conference at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. The third recording, titled “Return to the Source,” consists of a presentation, dated October 1, 1983, by Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III concerning the history of people of the African Diaspora. He focuses on the “cultural deep structure” of African communities throughout the world and locates the origins of African culture in the pre-dynastic African culture that gave rise to Ancient Egypt. In the final recording, Old Testament professor Dr. Charles Copher explores the presence of black people in the Bible and argues that people of African descent were instrumental in the founding of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
